History of SCA (ACT)
The first body corporate, or owners corporation was registered in the Australian Capital Territory in June 1971. In that time the Unit Titles Ordinance 1970 has been updated to become the Unit Titles Act 2001.
Although strata management firms worked together in some areas relating to legislation, there was previously no formal body to provide a sound structure.
Wishing to have a structure and forum which would enable those working in the strata sector to enhance their professional services and responsibilities, the ACT's leading strata management firms established the Strata Managers Institute (ACT) - SMI (ACT).
SMI (ACT) was affiliated with the National Community Titles Institute (NCTI). In 2011 NCTI re-branded as Strata Community Australia. As with other state and territory affiliates, SMI (ACT) also adopted the new brand, becoming Strata Community Australia (ACT).
